Great food, fast service, and friendly staff. Love the menu variety that is offered, you are sure to find something no matter what you like.

I tried it out last night in Brandon. Wow, everyone there was very friendly and the arepa I had with the soft white cheese was damn good. Not a typical one from a festival. Will be coming back.

Open late. Amazing Arepas, tons to try to decide which to try. I've go all the time and have only had about a third of the flavors. A must try if you like Colombian food

Excellent Venezuelan food! The empanadas are delicious, and the arepas come with a variety of fillings that are mouth watering. We also enjoyed the cachapas. Like no other flavors in the Tampa Bay area. We recommend this place as a regular part of a weekly outing.

Oh my goodness! Loved everything about this place, loved every bite, loved the service. Can't say enough about how great it was. Such an unusual little place. Very clean. The waitress was very helpful. Can't wait to return.

El mejor restaurante de nuestra comida en la bahía de Tampa y sus muchos alrededores!

I tried Nico's at the Lakeland Food Truck Rally. There's a lot of good competition at the rally's, but I will say, Nico's will definitely get my repeat business. It wax the first time I tried Arepas. I had the beef with white cheese and a little of their volcano sauce. Beef was so tasty, the white cheese had a fantastic saltiness and the flavor of the arepa has left me wanting more I can't wait until next month, I might make a trip to Tampa.

We really enjoined this place, we ordered as appetizer a side of tequeos, then we sheared the sampler plate (2 tequeos, 2 empanadas, 2 arepas and cachapa) it was very good. The chicken.... oh boy the chicken is sooo good! And a cachapa filled with cheese also very go and passion fruit juice.

  • *****

Food was awesome. I went twice on a 5 day vacation in Tampa and I will go when I return again. The arepas are to die for. Check them out for sure.

Very Nice!! I can't wait to taste the food. The Lady that called from the reasturant to let me know they were out of one thing and asked if I want something else was really nice she also didn't have to call but the fact she did was really nice too! She was all around nice lol :)

We were going to a concert around the corner at Beer & Brownies and needed a quick place to eat. We found Nico's and we were just overjoyed by the food that we selected. Sometimes you just get lucky and find that gold nugget in the stream and we did. Whenever we go to Tampa, this is going to be our dinner destination. Oh, and they have live music too.

  • *****

Delicious Venezualan food. It's truly amazing. Fast-casual and cheap are a bonus for this gal on a budget!
I really enjoy the food. That's the star of the show here! Don't expect too much more, but for a foodie that's all that matters!

One of my favorite food trucks at Cigar City. Food tastes fresh, comes out quick and is reasonably priced. I love the Reina Pepiada, but anything with their garlic sauce is perfect!

Amazing atmosphere, great food, great service. Will be driving back here again in the near future.

This place is amazing! The soup is ssoo on point!!

This was my first time trying Venezuelan food, not bad. A Lotta dough and cheese I didn't dine in placed a 2 go order, was pretty quick. The waitress even offered to bring it out to the car for us, which I thought was excellent customer service. It was late, I noticed they also have a food truck. I must do more research to find what to really order next time. The sampler had a mixture of things, but it all tasted the the same with the exception of the sweet corn filled pancake, which we all liked!

This was the third time I've been to Nico's and each time it has been really great.

This visit the three of us shared the Tequeos, Nico's Sampler and Patacones. The favorites were the Mini Arepas and Mini Empanadas on the Sampler. The least favorite were the Patacones. They each had a potato salad base that we didn't care for but other than that, the food was awesome!

The servers were very helpful and attentive! Will definetly be coming back again and again!

  • *****

Super yummy. Very clean and great service. The mango juice is bomb and their servings are generous

Though we did not dine in, this hip little restaurant seem to have plenty of in-house seating and seating at the bar. They also have a food truck that the hostess said would be back running next week. I will warn you, that the restaurants appears to be in an area that has a bunch of "hole in the wall" eateries. Do not be turned away, it is worth a trip and the area appeared to be relatively safe. After visiting Puerto Rico and enjoying some authentic Arepas, we were excited to try these Venezuelan delights. I would recommend the Nico's Sampler! My favorite was a cachapa, which gave me the feeling an taste of a very sweet and thin cornmeal pancake with your choice of filling. I will also warn you, that much of my food had an excessive amount of cheese. If you are not a face of queso blanco or handmade cheese, ask them to lighten up on it. Overall from the arepas (which are huge), mini arepas and empandas, everything was tasty and very filling. Also, Groupon is running a deal $20 of food for $12. Enjoy!

I'm a creature of habit so i always go for their shredded beef and chicken soup. They are seriously so good! Btw the chicken soup is massive and for some people could be a meal in itself. The first time I ordered it (in the small size!) there were two intact chicken drumsticks along with a lot of root vegetables and of course, a tonn of flavor. And it came with a side, I chose an arepa. Just writing this review has got me salivating..... Seriously, you gotta try this place if you haven't already!

  • *****

This is the best. I ate everything on my plate and sampled several others. Wow I can't say enough good things about. Try it I'm sure you will love it.

  • *****

Never heard of this place until today. Food truck came to my job and I ordered the Chicken arepas and the pequenos (mozzarella cheese bites) and let me tell you it was AMAZINGLY delicious. Good portion size and decent price. The owner was friendly and I would definitely go visit his restaurant in the future.

  • *****

Emanadas were fantastic, I had cheese husband had steak, best I ever tasted. Very authentic and staff are welcoming and helpful and smiley! Will be back

  • *****

Delicious! A beautiful, clean restaurant with great food and friendly staff! I'll definitely come back! I've never had arepas before, but I'm determined to try each one on the menu.

  • *****

I have had arepas previously and was not a huge fan of how dry and flavorless they were. My visit to Nicos was pleasing. While arepas are typically a little dryer dishes I enjoyed mine from here and thought it had a decent amount of flavor.

  • *****

Holy awesome! How come I didn't find this place sooner!?!

Was super hungry after Gasparilla festivities and didn't want to fight the crowds in South Tampa so we decided to head a bit north and oh aren't we glad we did!

Live music on Saturdays, huge plus! We got chicken and beef empanadas which were the biggest empanadas I've ever seen and were oh so delicious. For dinner we got the beef arepas! I added avocado to mine and it was seriously heavenly. Their chicken and beef is flavored wonderfully and the crispy outside yet soft inside of the arepa makes for a delicious dinner. Also, the portion was huge! I was stuffed!!! I already plan on going back this weekend. So so so tasty!!!!

  • *****

Tried something new to me tonight. Not just a new restaurant but a new style of food. I was quite impressed. We shared a cachapas. This is a cheese stuffed sweet corn meal pancake. Add a touch of sour cream and tomatillo salsa and you have happy taste buds. Since the restaurant is named Arapas I assumed this was their speciality so I ordered the pabellon arapas. This is a stuffed tortilla filled with amazingly seasoned shredded beef, black beans, queso, and fried plantains. It was a good assumption. Yummy, yummy, yummy.

  • *****

The food was fast, fresh, and wonderful. Service was excellent. The singers/band, Fabiola and Alex, entertained us the whole time with great Venezuelan music. We highly recommend!

  • *****

Unique and tasty food, very friendly service and clean. Arepas were big and full of great stuff! Fruit drinks were also nice.

  • *****

For a unexpected beautiful restaurant this is where to go very clean staff extremely friendly food top-notch and the best Cachapa i've ever had. This is my very first review that I've ever written.

  • *****

Great food down part is that don't bring the all table food at the same time I wait 20 minute after my kids have there food

  • *****

Love their food always fresh and service is great. Hangover fix...

  • *****

The cachapas are delicious! Make sure you try one with the pork and plenty of garlic sauce on top!

  • *****

La comida y la atencin muy buena.

  • *****

Very delicious Venezuelan restaurant with descent prices and good portion sizes. I have been here twice and have never been disappointed. The place is clean and the service is great. They do almost exclusively play Spanish music and have Spanish television on. I found it added to the experience but if you don't want to hear Spanish music maybe order the food to go. Overall a really good restaurant for a reasonable price.

  • *****

By no means I consider myself an arepa expert, however these arepas are out of this planet. Crunchy and soft inside great flavor and texture. A must try for everybody. Now the service needs improvement, the servers seems to lack experience.

  • *****

Do you want to try the best Venezuelan arepas? Nico's is the answer!

  • *****

Excellent food and a very hospitable staff. This seems like a family owned restaurant, who really care about the quality of their food and service.

  • *****

Delicious arepas, always fresh; friendly service.

  • *****

I've had arepas at fairs and loved them, but these are on another level. They're basically arepa sandwiches full of meat and beans and cheese (or whatever you want -- there are lots of options.) The place seemed bigger than necessary, but it's also open very late, so maybe things pick up with the late night crowd. I know I'll probably get a hankering for these arepas next time I'm out socializing past my bedtime.

  • *****

Was searching late and very last minute for some food and found this place on UberEATS and can say it's phenomenal!! The portions were great, food was very tasty and it was delivered promptly. I will definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area looking for some great Venezuelan food. Thank you guys so much for everything!

  • *****

Amazing food and service! Their Cachapas and tequeos are the best in town!!!

  • *****

Don't come here if you are lactose intolerant. Venezuelans love their cheese and so do I. I loved the cachapa and the areas are delicious over sized corn tortilla - like platters for meats. The batidos (fruit shakes) were also delicious.

  • *****

Amazing Venezuelan food. Great service and great entertainment. Would definitely recommend

Cool environment, food is good, not the best arepas I've had but still good. Lot's of cool menu items.

Used to order arepas from their food truck and now ordering that and more from their restaurant! You won't be disappointed if you love Latin cuisine! Price is right, food is amazing! Had lunch with my husband and two of our kids yesterday. We ordered three huge arepas, the cheese sticks (not your normal cheese stick), beef empanadas and rice beans and shredded beef dish that my son devoured! Service was good and the place was clean! Definitely check it out!

Upon entering the dinner. I was very much in the mood for biscuts and gravy. It was very busy but everybody was moving A+ on customer service. We placed our order and while we were waiting a gentleman appoached us and caught our attention with some slight of hand tricks. Very insightful. Coffee was fresh. Biscuts were good. Gravey was gold. Orderd the strip as a main and was highly impressed with the quailty. Come to find out the magician was the owner Nikko himself. Highly recommend breakfast lunch and dinner. There is a reason why this place has been there what seems like forever . 5 stars all the way .

  • *****

The food here is amazing! My husband is Venezuelan and he loves this place. My personal favorite is the sampler plate and the cheese cachapa. This is authentic!

Delicious food and really nice atmosphere. We will definitely be returning!

Absolutely Awesome food, and Great Service!

Having grown up with a Venezuelan best friend, I am a HUGE arepa fan. Let me tell you Nico's makes some great great arepas!

I am not a Tampa local, but after my first visit I vowed I would return to try more. I was in Tampa this past weekend and made it a priority to go to Nico's again. Boy am I glad I did. My taste buds were in heaven once again.

On both of my visits I have built my own arepa. They let you choose four fillings. This time I ordered black beans, queso blanco, avocado, and chicken. My arepa actually arrived with plantains instead of black beans, but I didn't bother sending it back because I knew it would still be delicious. And it was! The crunchy shell, tasty sauces, and flavorsome fillings are something I have dreamt about since.

Three sauces come out with the arepas. I highly recommend either the cilantro or the garlic sauce! Both add a coat of deliciousness to your arepa. I personally smother mine in the sauces, as I am sauce lover and can't get enough.

Get the tequeos as an appetizer. They are like mozzarella sticks but a million times better. Instead of your basic cheese stick, they are filled with queso blanco (a creamy delicious white cheese) wrapped in a crunchy dough. Oh man mouthwatering!

I promise I will return to Nico's for more on my next Tampa visit, and you should too!

  • *****

Great Arepas! Very nice atmosphere inside this place.

  • *****

I have been going here for their yummy cachapas (thick corn pancake filled with cheese) for several years now. I eat one and take one to go and freeze it for later. Ask for the queso guyanese which I prefer to the queso de mano. Bring a few home and freeze them for a lazy Sunday morning. Make sure you pack the cheese separately -- also can be frozen. I defrost the cachapa and cheese separately. Put the cachapa in the toaster over and bake it -- comes out super yummy -- corn will caramelize -- kinda crusty on the outside and soft inside. A total winner.
The other items are not too bad either but I like their cachapa best! Buen provecho!

  • *****

Wonderful restaurant nice and clean. I love the food definitely coming again.

  • *****

While the decor is a little too 80's industrial to take seriously, the tables aren't covered in the mystery sticky that seem to haunt most trucks gone stationary. It's clean, well-lit, and the music over the speakers isn't too loud to disallow conversation. The food is amazing. Beef with Gouda is my favorite of the arepas line up, but I plan to work my way through the rest of the menu on subsequent visits. The plantains are good, the tostobes are amazing. Especially if you add the garlic sauce. Prices aren't bad, but with drinks and a split appetizer, it ran us about $20 a person. But a place that smells so good, you want to keep eating even after you're full, is well worth it. Can't wait for my next visit.

  • *****

Great place in Tampa to eat Arepas, specially Reina Pepiadas. Great service too. Highly recommend.

  • *****

Finally visited Nico's sit down restaurant last Saturday night after having only been to their food truck a couple times. I LOVE the Reina Pepiada arepa (with chicken, avocado, Venezuelan cheese) that I get from the food truck. But I wanted to try something different. So I ended up getting a cachapa, which is a sweet corn pancake, that's filled with whatever meat you prefer. I opted for the shredded beef. While I liked it, I didn't love it as much as the Reina Pepiada arepa. The cachapa is huge and after awhile, the sweetness is too much for me. Now if you really want to get a taste of everything, I would suggest the sampler, where you get mini cachapas and arepas, as well as tequenos (awesome!), etc. They have a pretty extensive menu sure to please everyone.

The service in their sleek restaurant and their truck is great. Live music on Saturday nights. This restaurant will be added to my Saturday dinner rotation. For Venezuelan food, I prefer Nico's over their competitors.

  • *****

Food taste delicious, super friendly staff, highly recommended :-)

This is a Venezuelan Restaurant specialize in " arepas" (corn cakes) filled with different ingredients. They started with a food truck and now they have their own restaurant.
Excellent service; attentive to details, and very good arepas. I highly recommend !

  • *****

    Awesome

  • *****

Stopped by Nico's today for the first time, and it won't be the last time! Good arepas!

We had a late breakfast, got out and went shopping for a refigerator... ended up over on Armenia close to Nicos. I had always wanted to stop by and check it out. My girlfriend has never had an arepa... so we thought this might be a good lunch.

I ordered a La Pelua with both cheeses (Cheddar and White), and she got the Chicken Special. We got them to go. Service was good, food was made, we paid and left.

At home, we dug into the arepas... and they were excellent. My girlfriend immediately stated we need to go there often, as she munched. Lots of meat, cheese, and that delicious corn arepa holding it all together. They are a full meal all by themselves even for a hearty eater. Sauces were good also... although I wish I had gotten the Ajo (garlic) sauce. So that will be next time, and soon!

Highly recommended! Beautiful new restaurant, nice lighting, friendly staff, and good food!

    See ya there...

  • *****

They have the best Arepas I've ever had!

  • *****

First time having areas and they did not disappoint. Got the pabillion and beef and chicken. I loved the plantain and beef mix. Sweet and salty heaven-but it did fall apart in a jeep and was mostly beans-would have liked more
Of the meat and plantains. Service was super friendly but a bit spotty-no refills
After two? This is salty cheesy fair let's not get stingy on the drinks. Maybe it's
    Just preference but
We weren't cachapa fans. It's like a light sweet
Bread with a light cheese-just eh.

  • *****

We love eating there, the food is great! Only suggestion is to add your menu to the website please, Thanks!

  • *****

Awesome arepa! Make sure you try the 3 dipping sauces - they take it to the next level

  • *****

Great Venezuelan food . Place is clean . Always smiling !! Love it

  • *****

Absolutely Delicious!! My favorite place to eat!

  • *****

Great service, very good thick mango juice. Arepas tasty come with choices of sause.

  • *****

Small frendly staff, very prompt attentive service. Prices reasonable, $25 for two dinners, juices and sides. Had Nicos chicken arepa, fresh 3 sauses delivered to table to try. Wish the heart of palm salad had fresh heart of palm rather than canned. Sweet plantain was good.

  • *****

Prompt service and delicious food. Can't go wrong here.

  • *****

This is one of those places that belong in the, don't judge a book by its cover categories.

Exterior looks a bit like a hole in the wall, but don't be afraid, interior is swanky modern and food fantastic! Very reasonable prices (aka cheap eats!)

They offer arepas which are wonderful vehicles for shrimp, chicken, steaks or veggies! Venezuelan cuisine at its finest!

Only reason they didn't get the final star is they first told me they were out of shrimp, then they somehow found more but my order came out different from what I actually ordered. And as we were a table of 6, the orders came out sporadically, rather than at same time. May have just been short handed in kitchen at the time as they weren't crowded.

Will give them another shot as the food was great! Everyone enjoyed, from cheese sticks, to samplers to mini arepas! Salad options looked great too!

  • *****

Excellent! Delicious! Fantastic! Especially Nico's Beef Special!

  • *****

Amazing food great atmosphere good people

  • *****

I love there mango shakes and they are so kind. For a change of pace it's a wonderful place to fall in love in.

  • *****

Walking in its a nice modern place, the people are friendly and proud of their food. The food itself it pretty good. I've tried pretty much everything and the cheese they use is delicious. A really good selection, good taste, nice atmosphere and friendly staff, hard to go wrong here.

Talk about amazing Venezuelan food! I had an arepa and it was delicious we also order the sampler and it was perfect everything taste really good! Prices are very reasonable and the the staff it's very friendly and attentive! Highly recommended if you are looking for good Venezuelan food!

  • *****

I tried the food truck once at a rally downtown so when I drove by and saw they had a location on Armenia I was excited to check it out.

When we walked in we were greeted right away. Our waitress came over and took our drink order right away. She took our order soon after. We were the only table being waited on so we didn't wait long for drinks. Unfortunately on the food they brought one dish over and then didn't bring the other one over until later. They also don't have their desserts on the menus that they give you at the table. I went up to the counter to look at the dessert menu on their tv screens. I asked for the tres leche but they were out.

  • *****

The arepas are honestly better than my grandmother makes. Venezuelan native.

  • *****

Between this Venezuelan restaurant and El Perdigon, I keep switching my arepas. The place is great, super nice and almost like a Miami vibe. Sometimes the is too damn cold inside so keep a sweater in your car. Order La arepa glotona or the arepa w sweet corn bread (not the cachapa, which is also great!)

  • *****

Finally checked out their new brick and mortar location after liking their food truck! The location inside is nice and modern and has cool lights and decor. The person working was pretty nice and personable too.

Now this place has all sorts of apps like the tequenos which are good and cheesy, but small. They have salads, soups, arepas, rice dishes, cachapas, & soups.

The caldo de pollo chicken soup was definitely not their strong point. For the price that it is, I would think there would be more chicken and all sorts of chunky veggies that go in a good Latin soup. This is not it.

This spot is good for their cachapas and arepas! Come here solely for that, and you will be happy.

  • *****

We always went out of our way to find the Truck! Now they can't escape us with a permanent building. This is one of our favorite places to eat in all of Florida. La Catira is my personal fav.

  • *****

It seems like not so long ago that Nico's Arepas Grill was best known as the bright blue food truck that sat in a parking lot just south of Waters Avenue along Armenia. I had first discovered Nico's at several different food truck rallies, and later found the truck sitting alongside Armenia Avenue. Clearly they have sold a heck of a lot of arepas since my first visits in 2013, as they now occupy a brick & mortar restaurant in the same locale as where the food truck was parked.

The new Nico's is a sleek and modern sit-down restaurant that still features the outstanding Venezuelan arepas (stuffed to order), as well as a whole host of new menu options that were never available from the truck. When you walk through the front door you have your choice of sitting at the counter overlooking the open-air kitchen, or turning to your left and sitting in their spacious dining room. For those who are waiting on a carryout order, there is plenty of seating at the counter, or the adjacent high-top counter.

The new menu features about a dozen types of arepas ($7 each) with a wide variety of fillings from beef, chicken, shrimp, pork, and vegetarian. You can mix and match to your heart's content. Just like the food truck, you can also custom order your mix of fillings to create an arepas that will appeal to your palate.

In addition, the menu now features a nice mix of appetizers including fried cheese sticks, fried stuffed turnovers with your choice of fillings, fried green plantains, mini arepas "sliders", and a sampler platter with a little bit of everything. They feature beef, chicken, and mondongo (tripe) soups which are perfect on a chilly day. Nico's also now features Pabellon and Asado Negro platters for lunch or dinner. Pabellon is either shredded, seasoned beef or chicken served with white rice, a cup of black beans, fried sweet plantains, avocado, and imported Venezuelan white cheese. Asado Negro is round of beef ribeye with white rice and sweet plantains. Very delicious and filling platters of food for a reasonable price ($10)!

If you'd like to eat a bit lighter then Nico's has a mixed salad with the usual greens, tomato, onions, cucumbers and avocado, or a delicious hearts of palm salad. One other option on the menu are the sweet corn cachapas (similar to an arepas, but sweeter. The regular is filled with cheese, or you can go wild and try their ham & cheese, or the full cachapatona with it's gut-busting combination of shredded beef, shredded chicken, chicken salad, shrimp, and white cheese.

They do have flan and other options for dessert, but I'm always too full after the Pabellon platter.

Nico's is open every day at 11am. Monday - Thursday they close at 11pm, Friday and Saturday they're open until 4am, and on Sundays they close at 10pm.

These folks are super-friendly, and they will gladly answer your questions and give you some suggestions. My recommendation is to get up off the sofa, and go try something new for dinner!

I loved it!!!

Great food, excellent customer service. Beautiful place and very comfortable.

This is the third time we visit this place (mind that we come from St Pete's). Can you tell we love it?
This is a top notch Venezuelan cuisine! The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful. My favorite food is their Cachapas (a sweet corn patty filled with your choice), which I highly recommend the shredded chicken with cheese Cachapa. I've tried their Arepas as well and boy they're good too!
From outside this place doesn't impress much, but trust me it's one of the most clean & organized restaurants I've seen. Even their bathroom!
Their menu keeps getting more interesting each time we go. I cannot wait to go again and again!

I have been saving this review for some time. I chose Nico's Arepas Grill not just for the good food. It has successful Cinderella story that many small businesses can learn about it.

Many yelper know about them for the food truck they have operated. The Arepa that they have served using the imported Venezuela cheese. This cheese is almost like mozzarella cheese. When it melt, you can pull like small string. Thousands yard long. May be not. May be you can make it to Guinness record by single pull cheese string. Good Luck:)

This is a small guy that make it to the big stage. Now they open the restaurant to serve this food. It is truest Cinderella story make it to the big stage. What make them successful is the first impact that make the customer want to comeback after one visit. The success reason are:
    1. Nice restaurant interior design to attract young and old crowd
    2. Great service that make you feel welcome
    3. Vibrant atmosphere created by the people who work there feel the Latino warm feeling
    4. Good food for the reason to come back

This was our second stop of restaurant night and we have ordered the Nico Sampler and Sopa de Res. In the sampler, every items are great especially the cachapas. The cachapas is made from sweet corn and they are good. The Sopa de Res is the beef soup and it is very good too. They told me the weekend special is their tripe soup and it usually sold out in the morning.

Our waiter Rafael make our trip special and welcome. I am glad they hire the good personality and vibrant waiter. If you feel hungry at night when all restaurants have closed, they are the few open restaurant in the Bay Area. They open till 4 am in the week end. Go checkout and give them a shout if you like.

When it melt, you can pull like small string. Thousands yard long. May be not. May be you can make it to Guinness record by single pull cheese string.

This restaurant has nice deco inside. It was consider busy at Sunday night. There were at least 7-8 people serving. So the service was fast. We ordered a small beef soup and a sampler- 2 pieces of mini arepas, mini empanadas and cheese. We were offered 3 different kinds of sauces- orange color spicy sauce ( very hot, be aware!), white garlic sauce and a salsa -like sauce. The food was very good. The chicken or shredded beef and grill cheese go well together with the arepa bun. We ordered a caf con leche . It was quite good. Over all, this place is cool. Good selections of food and drink, excellent services, good price, long hour- I was impressed. I heard Nico's used to be a food truck and now became a restaurant. The owners did a good job running this restaurant. Next time when this question pop up" where to eat good food after 9:30 pm at Tampa?" No doubt "Nico's Arepas grill" would be a good answer.

Amazing food. Amazing service. Really nice place. Order almost one of everything on the menu and all was amazing. The empanadas were really good. The cachapa was filled just perfect. The tequeos have to be a must order. Tamarindo and passion fruit juice are the BEST. Will come back again and again. 101% recomendado! Excelente comida y servicio.

This is the best place to get Venezuelan arepas. I love the empanada domino. That one is really good

  • *****

I just had the most amazing Arepa I have ever ever tasted outside of my Venezuelan familie's kitchen. Adrian was one of the kindest people I have met and the Arepa with the ropa vieja and cheso blanco was out of this world. Gracias Adrian, your Venezuela arepas are exactly how arepas are supposed to taste like!

I've hit up Nico's food truck as often as possible over the years and just found this permanent fixture that will have their delicious snacks whenever I am around. I do wish it was located a bit more on my beaten path, but they will still have the truck touring the area as well.
I would definitely recommend the La Glotona which is a crispy arepa filed with pork, beef, chicken, cheese, peas, potatoes, and sauce. This is super comfort food for me that I have never found anywhere else outside of the Tampa area.
The service was a bit suspect, but it was our server's first day ever, so I am giving them the benefit of the doubt that the service will improve to match their amazing, original product.
I will definitely be back and will continue to follow the truck around town like a crazy arepa groupie!

NICO'S IS AWESOME!!!! This has to be my favorite food truck, hands down!!! Well, they still have the truck but they also have a restaurant! Both are great. The Cachapa with queso blanco and La Glotona (Arepa with (I think) pork, beef and chicken) is what I usually get and I have never been disappointed! I have had everything on the menu at least twice (their truck was really close to home) and it is all great. T business has has grown a lot in 3+ years because the food is fantastic! Try the garlic sauce.

just ate a "Pelua" from their food truck!! it was fantastic!!!

DAMN! I've never tried Venezuelan food before, this was on a whim. ..am very glad I stopped. The food is great. I had the Cachapas. ...delicious! Don't order the cheese sticks unless you're with other people, very good, but very very filing! The restaurant is very clean and the decor is very pleasing. My only criticism is the service is a little lacking. Pleasant, but she let my drink go empty and the other waiter walked past a few times without offering to help. (Sorry, huge pet peeve.. glasses should be full) However. ...I'll be back many times. ..

There are two think that make a good place. The food and the people. This place has that and more. It has a good anviance a good location. You'll be thinking of our country's and there amazing culinary dilites. The famoso cachapas try it once and you get hook. My favorite is the puerquito with Gudda cheese and don't forget to add there famous sauces. My is the mojo, o picadillo, or what ever you what to call it pero el muy rico.
In 100% sure you'll like it.

I went to Nico's restaurant today for the first time and was very impressed. I have been going to their food truck for some time now, but the expanded menu at the store front was pretty nice. I got the arepa with beef, black beans, and sweet plantains and it was amazing. The owner Adrian even went around table to table to see how the customers were doing. I definitely would recommend this place.

  • *****

The wait is over and was it worth it! The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is attentive and courteous. We of course had the Nico's beef special which was love at first bite from our prior food truck encounters, but also were able to order sweet plantains, beans and rice, and empanadas all of which were cooked to perfection. What a gem of a place. Great atmosphere. It's great to be able to take the family here, sit down, and have a fantastic meal. This will no doubt be an iconic restaurant in Tampa.

  • *****

Was there for the first time last night and loved it! Being from Venezuela, and not being able to eat the food as often as I'd like, going in there was delightful for me. A friend took me who had eaten from the food truck in Lakeland and we had found out they had this location. The food is genuinely Venezuelan. They also have Malta Polar and the candy that I grew up with and love. I will definitely go back and take family when they visit.

  • *****

Was delighted to find the menu is much larger than the photo here shows. In addition to about a dozen variations of stuffed arepas, they also offer a number of appetizers like empanandas, sides like plantains, and cheese filled pastries....plus lots of drinks domestic and imported. I very much enjoyed the shrimp special arepa with garlic sauce and fried ripe plantains (maduros), uniquely served with a mound of shredded cheese. The arepa had a great flavor and crispy crust.

  • *****

This food truck serves Venezuelan fare and it is absolutely deliscious. I'm not really even sure what it was I ordered, but the hand held pocket of pork, and a myriad of other edibles mushed inside created an exceptional dining experience.

I believe they are opening an actual brick and mortar restaurant soon however, if you visit the food truck, make it a point to eat there so you have access to the incredible sauces (in refreshed my sauce every couple of bites).

This place is a must try. I will defintely give the brick and mortar restaurant a try when it opens as well.

I had my most favorite arepas bar when I lived in NYC (Caracas Arepas Bar if you're ever in NYC) and have missed arepas ever since. I've been wanting to try Nico's for nearly a year, and tonight was the night! We went simple with the beef and white cheese....we aren't huge mayo fans so we didn't go with any of the specials that included chicken salad. Let me say that the arepa itself was one of the best I've ever had. It was excellent. The filling was very good....and I loved the garlic cilantro sauce, too. I only wish they had fried plantains to stuff in there...that'd be amazeballs. I would definitely go back!

  • *****

My family and I LOVE this place. So fresh and with a great taste. Recommendations: La pelua, La catira, La glotona, La cachapa.... Everything is really good and the service is excellent. Really family friendly. I look forward to visit them at their new establishment.

I was told to try their food by my sister. Food it's amazing! Workers were very helpful and nice.

They just opened the restaurant which can be found where the truck is usually at. The inside of the restaurant looks great, it's clean, plenty of seating, great atmosphere, customer service was also good. The food is always good!

My new favorite Arepa place. Their juices are delicious and a great location near Armenia and sligh. The recently opened restaurant is impressive after a successful venture with their food truck. You will enjoy their menu variety. Give it a try!

No longer a food truck; finally a sit down restaurant. The food is deliciously authentic, place is clean, servers are friendly- prices are reasonable. Best arepa fix in Tampa!

If there is one thing that my boyfriend has learned, it's to never let me get too hungry. After a long and crazy day at work, I hadn't gotten a chance to eat lunch and it was way past dinner time. Needless to say, I might have been a little crabby.. or "hangry," as he so fondly puts it. Thankfully, we live very close to the ethnic utopia that is Armenia Avenue. He surprised me when he got home from work with an arepa from Nico's. It was stuffed full of chicken and cheese. The meat seemed to have been marinated in a delicious sauce that was dripping from every corner. I'm not sure exactly what menu item he ordered or whether he built his own arepa, but it was very good. The cachapas are next on our list to try! The Nico's Arepas Grill food truck stays open late, so it's convenient when we're coming home from a night out.

Here's a good tip, fellas: food is the way to a woman's heart.

Arepas made in the Venezuelan way, filled with everything you'd like such as meet, chicken, pork, shrimps, Gouda cheese, etc (up to five toppings) and about 5 inches round arepas (health pre-cooked corn powder). They are just excellent and delicious. Nonetheless, shredded beef tastes like Cuban cooking (saucy) and not like Venezuelan cuisine (drier and cooked with lesser tomato sauce, right to the taste Spanish sofritos and green-peppers, onions, etc /// even YouTube contains well documented preparation instructions). Other than that, sort of round eye beef darker with brown sugar is Made JUST RIGHT... Enjoy the place!!!!

  • *****

I've been eating here since they were in the little truck. Never disappoint with the arepas. So far the best Venezuelan arepas in Tampa and now with this new location couldn't be any better.

If you are really hungry try the glotona, it has everything on it.
I also recommend the cachapas with cheese, they are yummy.

Open till 4am on the weekends, very convenient.

If you have never had an arepa you need to come here. If you have enjoyed arepas this is the place to get the best in Tampa. The place is clean. The food is authentic and delicious. I enjoyed the people and the music. Like going back to visit my friends in Venezuela.

Came here with my wife and got la catira- chicken w cheese and pabellon-beef black beans plantains and cheese. The chicken arepa tasted pretty fishy, we didn't finish it. The pabellon was very tasty and we both ended up sharing it. The tostones were a very good side for $3. We will definitely be back but skip the chicken this time. Our server Carla was very nice and made us feel welcome

Arepas are my current food crush, and this place takes the cake! Corn cake, that is.

They have bizarre hours and travel around Tampa, so it can be hard to track them down. It's definitely worth it though! I tried the Nico's Beef Special, and it really is up there with one of the tastiest sandwiches I've ever eaten. It's absolutely loaded with toppings. As in: you will be covered in food if you're trying to eat this in your car. Just let it happen, and relish in it's deliciousness. The white cheese they use is nice and salty, which is a big thumbs up in my book. If you go for any sauce, you have got to try their green cilantro sauce. It's killer!!!

My ONLY complaint is that they don't really do lunch hours (like say, around noon). I can't wait 'till 4pm for a lunch arepa! Hopefully the stars will align again where I can eat another Nico arepa in the near future.

If you're looking for something quick, inexpensive, convenient and delicious - hit this spot up next to the big bright red barbershop building on armenia near waters.  It has less variety for their Arepas than other places I've been too, but that doesn't mean it's not just as delicious.  And I was introduced to their sweet cachapas that is truly addicting (I want one now!!).  The guy that served us had allot of recommendations and I am glad I tried everyone because he was right on the mark and I loved all of it.  I hope this place doesn't move because I am super lazy with going anywhere to pick up dinner during the week.  I love it!

  • *****

What a gem of a place this food truck is! Considering we live right across the street from Taco Bus, if we have a desire for good tacos and burritos, we know where to go. This place was introduced to me from a friend, and might I say, I was not disappointed AT ALL.

For those of you who have never experienced an "arepas" as I had not, it is kind of like a delicious fried pita stuffed with the deliciousness of your choice. Chicken, shrimp, steak, or combination - yes please. Even better, they give you a plethora of tasty dipping sauces for them that truly complete the meal. I've used the sauces on several other meals I've cooked and eaten since then, no joke.

Even though I'm not able to button my pants after a weekend of eating them, it was definitely well worth it.

As a long-time fan of Daniel Hamm at Campton Place in Tampa, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to introduce my beloved partner to Daniel's brilliance at 11 Madison Park. Our experience, from beginning to end, blew away even my high expectations. From the art deco ambience, to the attentive but not overbearing service, to the near endless stream of magnificent, creative courses, this meal achieved top place in our history of remarkable dining experiences.

This review is based solely on my husband's taste, as they have no vegan options that were evident on the menu.  That is why they lost a star, if it was up to my husband, he said 5.   This vegan can comment on the arepas' corn exterior which was fabulous.  It had a crunchy exterior with a flavorful, dense, and chewy interior.  Never had one before so not sure if that is what it was supposed to taste like but it was goooooooooood.

I took a recommendation from the chef (Adrian) and got a white cheese, chicken salad, and pork arepa.  It smelled amazing and my husband was floored.  The arepa was $6 and weighed a ton.  It was a small sandwich but my husband said it was really filling and overflowing with the meat and cheeses.  The sauces recommended were delicious, volcano (spicy), mojito (a green salsa-like sauce), and garlic (my husband said this made the meal, it smelled amazing).

Adrian was incredibly helpful in describing the Venezuelan menu (most of it is translated but I've never had Venezuelan cuisine before so that didn't help much).  I did try a soda from the country and it tasted like candy so it was pretty good:)

The food truck is parked in the Papa John's parking lot right of of the West Hills. exit from 2-75 and really wanted to review them bc the chef was so helpful and I wanted to support a Seminole Heights food truck.  I wish more would park in this lot!

Tried them after getting Starbucks on Hillsborough, they were parked over by a Pappa John's. The owner is extremely friendly and the food is top rate. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. Give them a try if you see them.

Yummy, delicious food! They were at Tampa Gen Hospital while I was having my baby, and it was a real treat compared to the hospital food (bleh!). Everything tasted fresh and delicious! Sauces complemented the arepas, and I can't wait to try this place again.

Went here based on the reviews of fellow yelpers.

Not sure where this bus comes from or where it's going, yet, but it appeared outside of my favorite dessert place, Frostings, as I was buying a chocolate chip cookie dough cupcake for dessert after a fine meal at the Green Lemon.  I was very content
and was not in the mood to eat anything else.......

However, I saw the bus.  I remembered reading about it on my Yelp app and couldn't resist.  I had to convince my wife to "get one for the road," or at least that was the plan.

I got the Nico's beef special.  When I brought it to the car, we decided to take one bite each, then take the rest home.  After our first bite, the plan changed, and it was gone in no time as if we hadn't eaten in days.  Unbelievable flavors, I now love Arepas.

I will find this bus again, but need to digest for now.

Why 5 stars? Because this has become one of my favorites in Tampa Bay.

      ---   ---   ---

I officially love the existence of Nico's.

My Mom was recently in town to visit. As you could imagine, I took her on quite the food tour of Tampa Bay. Her favorite new spot was easily Nico's.

I couldn't stay away from my favorite Beef Special, and she went with the Shrimp Special. Someone in lined convinced us that we had to try the Cachapas Con Queso de Mano. It was ham and mozzarella cheese in a sweet corn tortilla. It was utterly delightful. I didn't notice the ham, but I didn't care. It was the perfect side dish to an arepa.

The only question I have to ask is, "why didn't I grow up Venezuelan?" Damn my luck.

  • *****

Oh My Goodness!!!!  OH MY GOODNESS!!!!   My son took me here when I was visiting and I can't believe he waited till my last night!  I would have eaten there every night, but also probably would have gained 400 lbs so maybe it's a good thing.  I'm going to search my city far and wide for someone who has Cachapas Con Queso de Mano on their menu.  That and the Shrimp Arepas I got were awesome.  I couldn't finish mine but couldn't wait till morning when I was hungry again to whoop up on the leftovers.  Good grief!  I'd fly back just for that!

  • *****

Although it has great potential, I thought the mixture was a little odd.

I ordered the beef special (chicken salad, cheese, egg, pulled beef, and white garlic sauce all inside a crispy yet fluffy corn tortilla like sandwich bun.

Would I go back? Yes but I'd create my own arepa. I'd get just the white cheese and the pulled beef with a side of garlic sauce to dip it in.

The pulled beef was really really good. It had lots of slow cooking flavor.  I could have eaten just a pound of the meat alone.

  • *****

This food truck in a tire lot on Hillsborough (at least when I went..) offers tasty Venezuelan arepa sandwiches. The cachapas is also good with a rich sweeter flavor and yummy melted cheese.

Fans of Nicos should also try the arepon at Pepitos After Hours on Waters.

  • *****

Had them at The Brews with Attitudes event at the Pepin Hospitality Center, much better than any of the food they were serving up inside to the VIP guest.  Love to try different food trucks, this was one of 4/5 at the event and recommended, they were right it was very good.  This may have been my first Arepas.

  • *****

I finally got to try Nico's Arepas Grill at the July 4th Fireworks at Idlewild Church and Food Truck Rally. This was honestly the busiest truck there, and there were quite a bit of trucks. It was also quite rainy, but that did not stop anyone from fireworks and food.
I ordered shredded beef on an arepa and it was just so yummy.  There was a bit more salt than I am use to, but I felt that this was something different than I have had any where else.  These are the white arepas not the yellow corn arepas. I usually do not like the white arepas but with the filling it was great.
I would definitely go back, and I see why everyone likes it. Yum Yum.

This food truck make the best Venezuela arepas you can try the people work in there is very nice

This is the first and only Venezuelan food I've had before, and it left me with a great impression.  When I first tried the arepa it was different than anything I'd ever tasted before, and I feel in love!  I had the glutona arepa with the multiple meats.  The sauces they have are very good, especially the pink sauce.  It is nice to go when its cool outside and just hangout and eat your food.  Food is amazing and customer service is great as well!

  • *****

I was so excited to find Nico's. I first had them at MOSI's food truck rally and have gotten an arepa any time I've seen them. I've missed having good arepas since leaving the NYC area. I haven't had anything bad here. Their arepas and cachapas are huge and delicious. I especially love all the sauces that I can add to my food. Don't forget to consider your choice of cheese. They have lots of options. I especially recommend their queso de mano. It's like eating a pillow of creamy cheesy goodness.

  • *****

    This is the food truck that ignited my love for food trucks. The food is absolutely phenomenal every time I come here (I try to alternate between the chicken and beef arepas), and it's a great portion size if you're hungry. It fills you up! It's messy as hell to eat, but when you're devouring something this delicious you want some evidence on your hands. (;

I've recently become quite a fan of Nico's Arepas Grill, and have been back to this food truck twice in the past few days. Arepas are a typical Venezuelan street food dish that is made of white corn meal, water and salt. The dough is formed into a patty, grilled, split and then stuffed with a variety of ingredients. Think about a pita pocket which is about the thickness of an English muffin, and you have a rough idea of an arepa.

Arepas are crispy on the outside and steamy-soft inside, and anything can go into an arepa as a filling. I learned that the maize flour is gluten-free which is great for those trying to eat healthy or with certain food allergies. The Castillo's who run the food truck told me that arepas are very popular in the Latin culture, and eaten as a snack or a meal, at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Works for me, as I am now hooked on these things!

Nico's Arepas Grill is actually a food truck which sits in the parking lot of an Hispanic barber shop along Armenia Avenue, just one block south of Waters Avenue. The barber shop is right next door to Famous Tate's, and across the street from a Dollar General store. I've been here twice for lunch, and saw them open last night when I drove by about 9pm.

The lady who took my order is super sweet, and she was very happy to chat with me as I stood there and ate my lunch today. I asked which type was her favorite, and she very proudly walked me through the different kinds of arepas and then told me about their sauces.

The menu (see here:   nicosarepasgrill.com/For… ) has several very tasty arepas -- all for $6 a piece. You can select from one of their house specials, or you can build your own from a long list of ingredients. I've tried La Glotona which is an arepa filled with shredded chicken, shredded beef, chicken salad, shrimp & white cheese. I also had Nico's shrimp special on Sunday which is an arepa filled with shrimp, chicken salad & white cheese.

Make sure that you try some of their homemade sauces including an Ajo sauce which is a creamy garlic sauce. Chimichurri which is an Argentinean sauce made with chopped fresh parsley, oregano, garlic, olive oil, vinegar, and red pepper flakes. And if you're feeling lucky, try a squirt of their homemade volcano sauce which is for hot sauce lovers only.

Nico's is definitely a must-try as they have something on their menu which would appeal to most everyone. You can order your arepas with most any type of meat, or without meat -- your choice.

One arepa plus a Diet Coke and I had a tasty lunch for $7. That's tough to beat!

I enjoyed a Nico's Arepa at the Channelside 4th of July food truck rally. I walked around and Nico's was the only one that really caught my eye. I had an El Glotona. It was $7 of bliss. Shredded chicken, beef, shrimp, potato salad and cheese. The guys working the truck were very friendly. I told who I assume was Nico? that I am a big fan of hot sauce. He gave me some of his habanero sauce to try. Very good! I would've bought a bottle for home if it was sold. I'll seek out this truck when I'm getting another craving.

  • *****

I'm not a food truck fan, but I'm a fan of Nico's Arepas. The corporate center I work for has shut down (rightfully so) all cafes. New food trucks are featured each day until the new cafes are opened, So far, Nico's has received the best reviews in terms of quality of food, speed, cuisine uniqueness and price. I enjoyed the Giotoma (shredded beef, shrimp, chicken salad and cheese). The arepas was filling and really tasty, though I'd skip the chicken salad. My co-workers had the pork and said good things. I think we're all looking forward to Nico's return.

My daughter's favorite thing is Arepas. She always gets one at fairs or festivals. Occasionally frozen from the grocery. Imagine our surprise when we were heading down Armenia ave and there was a food truck dedicated to those sweet savory morsals! She hopped out of the car on a mission! It was a scary mission due to a bad thunder storm approaching. I went on Yelp(safely in the car) and read all the delicious and enticing reviews. Shrimp, shredded beef, chicken etc. I was ready. My daughter came back to the car to wait. I excitedly asked what kind did ya get? She looked at me with glazed Arepas eyes and said what do you mean? She had a singular mission a traditional arepa. I said there is sauce, will you get sauce? She came back with two styrofoam containers and two little sauces. The sauce was a garlic ajoi sauce. I was in garlic heaven. I will be back for the chimichurri sauce (they were out )  oh the arepa! Apparently neither she or I have had a great one....until now!! Real corn deliciosness, melty cheese so great on a stormy Friday night. We will be back.

I first had this and fell in love with it in Orlando. I figured I'll find something similar to it when I was in Tampa. It's actually a food truck. I love the convenience of food trucks! The staff were very friendly and helpful. They definitely knew more English than the one in Orlando. Thank God! Lol they were so nice they gave us all the sauces to take with us. The arepas were yummy! The shredded beef itself were a bit too drenched in the sauce though. Made it super soggy and dripping everywhere. Wish they had quail eggs too. Would've made it perfect! Great amount of food for a reasonable price! You can customize it with anything you like! A must try if you never had it before!

  • *****

Excellent Venezuelan-style arepas. Prices are very reasonable. I recommend the beef or chicken special and the natural juices, especially "guanabana" and blackberry.
